Jet Li

jet li is an extemely good martial artist. he has speed, power, and techneik. some ppl call him the "master of camera" and those ppl are gay as hell. jet li is the man and the true martial artist. hes definitly at the top of the worlds best martial artist. this guy is probly as good, if not better, than bruce lee. master of camera my ass. in one of his interviews he said himself that he does not use special effects to make him look good. besides the movie hero which had a lot of flying and all that crap (im sure jet li cant fly). but watch the movie fist of legend. that is a top notch movie and its 10 times better than anything ull see in enter the dragon

finally

finally i have found some one who can make up there own mind and ignore the media bullshit

link

Enter the Dragon?

I'm sorry but enter the dragon isn't even Bruce Lee dipshit.

link

hahaha

what the hell, you guys all have your stories messed up eh.

first of all, jet li doesn't even do his own stunts. he admitted it on cradle to the grave 2. he is trained in wushu, which is a peice of crap martial art for fighting. it consits of a whole buch of useless forms, and no practical moves whatsoever. (i've trained in it), and bruce lee would cave in his head. it just funny cause every movies jet li actually has a good fight in, is when he uses fighting styles that revolve around bruce lee. (fist of legend). jet li uses ropes and stuff in about every movie, besides from his american movies like unleashed and kiss of the dragon. don't get me wrong, hes a great actor and wonderful to watch, but hes not a street tough fighter.

secondely, enter the dragon was bruce lee's last and best movie. so before you go around calling people names, maybe you should type in enter the dragon on google, and see whos on the cover. lol

link

???

wt u on bwt? Bruce lee was the best martial artist there ever was!!! jet lee would get his ass kicked by him!!!!

link

jet

hands_down u are a shit licker, wushu is great. If jet offerd u a fight you would shit urself and run.and yes fist of legend is wel better than than enter the dragon wel said intercepting_fist

link

haha

wushu sucks for fighting, and i'd take the fight with jet li any day. would i win? probably not, but i wouldn't be scared and i'd put up a damn good fight. lol. plus hes old, and his legs are messed up. calling me a shit licker is highly mature of you, i applaud your use of language and poor sentence structure.

fist of legend is probably the best fighting movie ever made. you can't jusdge a martial artist by their movies, since movies get better as time goes on. its like saying tony jaa could beat bruce lee. not possible, yet ong bak is way better than any of bruce's movies.

link

to tuna

bruce is the best martial artist there was but jet li is the best martial artist there is.no-one can argue with that!!!

link

nahh

best martial arts movie actor, but not the best martial artist. i mean, if he never made movies, no one would even know about him. hes great at wushu, but its not the most effective art, so the masters of other arts (for example shaolin kung fu) would destroy him. i think 5 _animals would agree...

link

lol, yup

I do agree. Wushu will beat My kung fu in forms (well, thats been the case most of the time, our club has got them a few times) but when it comes to sparring, they just won't know what to do. they generally try something really fast, and somthing that would really work if they had learn't how to apply it. but they don't train that, they train for forms. they have all of the same kicks, punches, stepping, etc etc that most martial arts have, but they don't learn to apply it. this is why they arn't good fighters.

Jet Li still would have been known, just not on a global scale. I mean Dr Tang Laiwei trained along side with Jet Li in the same team as he, and he is very well known among the kung fu community in australia. But i do have to say that he is the best martial arts actor, but Jackie is still my God. Kung fu, humor... it can't be beaten.

To say that he is the best martial artist thats alive now days is wrong, i believe that Bruce wasn't the best in his day. There are masters and fighers out there that don't want/need to be known, and i reckon that they would have beaten either of them hands down, got that hands_down? (sorry, i had to say that last bit)

jet

nice joke there five_animals i like it.jet li is my god so to speak,on his movies he is amazeing e.g fearless his new movie is fantastic it is said to be one of the best martial art films made(acording to the internet).I would love to have 1 training session with him then spar him after and i think i speak for everyone there!!

link

bruce lee: the real deal!

what has jet li done for martial arts a part from practice them? the answer is nothing, he can not be compare to bruce lee the one who actualy revolutionise martial arts, his whole life was martial arts! just by hearing the name bruce lee inspires respect.

link

nope

Maybe jet li hasn't done something for martial arts but he can surely fight properly. What do they train in wushu? I am just curious.

link

once again?

once again. wushu is all about the forms and looking pretty. jet li never leanred how to fight, nor did he ever get into a fight in his entire life, he did no sparring either. all he learned was forms, and then he showed them off to the world. wushu is inpractical in fighting cause all of the movements are for forms only.

the question is.. can he somehow make his wushu moves practical? the answer in my opinion is no, because he's never been into fighting, and is 100% against it. so therefore, he'd never put the time or energy into learning how to fight.

link

although

even though wushu is not designed to be practical he would be able to handle himself in a fight. Wushu has all the same techniques as the other arts, they just don't learn how to apply them in a fight. but for someone who has had so much training, and so much experience in martial arts, if someone jumped him on the street he would take care of them. up against people like an UFC fighter or Bruce lee, or someone in boxking muay thai, i don't believe he would be able to win. simply because they train to be only practical.

and i don't see it as wrong to be against fighting, if i never get into a fight again in my life then i'd be happy.
people in my, who have been trianing for longer than I, have never had to use it to defend themselves, and they prefer it that way. one of the instructors doesn't like competing in sparing, even though in his earlier years he cleaned out one tournament, its just not his thing. and this is the SAme for Jet Li

link

wushu

wel my mate keong does just wushu and he's an amazing frighter no-one can touch him if he fights someone belive me

link

preobably...

but put him against some real competiton or againsta real fighter and i dont think he would have much chance of surviving

link

wushu

I have sparred against him. Belive me he is a great fighter.I do shaolin kung fu(tiger and panther)which is abit like wushu and every time we spar the fight is endless one of us has to give up.It is like the fight scene, jet li and general fajita at the end of fist of legend the movie.we spar for ages block, punch, kick. If he fights someone his opponant has on chance.

link

dont know

those fights of yours with shaolin sond like coreography to me.a real fight has to be unpredictable you cant just fight forever until someone gives up with out having your nose broken or been hospitalise. I know that he is your friend and would"nt hurt you but if you really want to become good at fighting you should drop all that traditionality in martial arts and get what actualy works, get the essence and spar full out for the kill, between friends is good to use protecting pats.
why do you think there is no traditional kungfu in ufc? if you use that you are going to get hurt badly.

Accuracy

I am not going to argue on who is better or who would win. I have my own opinions but I will keep them to myself. I do however want to comment on the terms that have been butchered here repeatedly. I live in China and speak Chinese so I will give you an accurate interpretation of what these words mean. 功夫(Kung Fu) means effort, and is also used to represent general Chinese martial arts. 武术(Wushu) means fighting technique and is used to describe the study of fighting. 少林(Shaolin), which Jet Li actually studied in southern China is a type of Wushu and also a type of Kung Fu. As far as Jet Li never fighting or sparring, as well as the comment about no one knowing who he is if he didn't film movies, I would like to ask how he got his title as the Chinese National Martial Arts Champion without ever competing. And as far as Wushu not being useful, this is an art that was used before guns as a mode of combat. Of course you don't see people fighting with this on the streets, they are taught to only use this as a mode of self-defense. Many of the skills taught can be used to immobilize or kill an opponent. As for accepting a fight with 李连杰(Jet Li), you would be crazy. He wouldn't even have to use martial arts to defeat most people. A normal person couldn't even handle one or two punches from him. He is trained to know where and how to hit someone to defeat them.

link

thank you

osucowboytc is right. Know one will ever know who will when between bruce, jackie, and jet li. Everything anyone says about them fighting is just an opinion and not fact. You guys could debate all dat about but whats the point. It kinda childish if u ask me. There is alot of diffrent styles of wushu I wish you guys would do some research before typing on this website. I study wing chun and that can be considered wushu. Tell me wingchun is not effective and you would be lying. I dont know I just hope that everyone would be more open minded and talk down on people with opinionated statments.

link

No one will ever know?

I had to sign up to JvB just for this topic. It's way out of control, with a bunch of martial arts fanboys who think they know it all. Are we REALLY so blind as to who would win in a fight between the three?

First off, Bruce Lee was a maniac more than a martial arts master. Every single day he trained in his art, read books when he wasn't training on philosophies, and later returned from a critical back injury to pure athletic form. This man was a monster, look at his films, his body is pure lean muscle. If any of you beleive Bruce isn't that great because of the action in his movies, think again, action wasn't developed out of 'Opera Style' until 1982 in movies. If anyone's entire life was dedicated to perfecting body and martial arts, it was Bruce.

Jackie Chan is a martial arts ACTOR, he's athletic, can act beter then any of the three, and is as fast as they get. He does train martial arts, but it's more of an athletic thing, Jackie is into martial arts no doubt, but moreso into fitness and health. If you look at some of his early work, you'll see unspeed footage of the most amazing fights and athletic ability in the world.

Jet Li, the Wushu Champion. Okay, this may sound really biased, but he's just a martial artist. Jet Li has small frame, and probably has the best FORM of the three. When we say 'Master of the Camera', unfortunetly it is true, I study film and television, I have seen movies from all three actors. Jet Lee is the most in the red light. It may be because he does not have 100% control over his movies, but stunt double perform Jet Li's high spinning kicks and even basic falls onto the floor (Look closely at Fearless). Now, I am basically commenting on the last 10years of Jet Li's work. Prior to this his movies are good, and athletic, but if anyone is going to kick ass, Jet Li would be the last man on earth to do so. He is just a martial artist, not a fighter, you might ask, what is the difference? A fighter is someone who does it for a living, less practicing martial arts form (IE. K1, UFC, Pride).

Now before you all flame me on my Jet Li comments, look at the making of 'Cradle to the Grade', I quote Jet Li "Those UFC guys would probably destroy me in a second". Straight from the horses mouth. In all fairness it's not so bad, I wont go into it, but none of the three would fair that well in the ring against a K1 fighter like Vitor Belfort or Tito. But having said that, he's probably one of the best Wushu Martial Artists in our time, but he's fit, but not great, no strong, no built, and no fighter.

So conclude, you should know I like UFC but martial arts and MA movies more so, so my comments are not biased in anyway, I simply state facts. So I've said Bruce Lee is the king of martial arts and good at fighting,

Now before you hate on me for mentioning Jet Li's stunt doubles, even though Jet Li does use them the most, all three have used stunt doubles, for one reason or the other. Bruce Lee probably has the move leway on this though, his stunt double is just to do stupid backflips etc. Jackie Chan uses some stunt double work in his recent movies (lets face it he's getting older). So they all have done it, but Li just uses doubles for the most rediculious things, fall on his back, spinning in the air, etc etc.

Jackie Chan is extremely athletic and makes great movies, and said Jet Li is a FORM expert and used to make good movies. It would suprise you to know Jackie Chan is still my favourite Martial Artist actor of all time. He's amazing, he's fast and has made by FAR the best movies in his prime. He's also a brilliant film maker. Between the three, if anyone has watched, read and studies as much as I have about the three, Bruce Lee would annihilate either two. But thats my unbiased fact. If you dont think Bruce Lee is a monster, and his movies dont turn you (i wouldnt be suprised), read "The Tao of Bruce Lee". It's a great book detailing the truth about how the man lived.

Detail Facts before you post 'What you think'.

PS. One final note after reading

"As far as Jet Li never fighting or sparring, as well as the comment about no one knowing who he is if he didn't film movies, I would like to ask how he got his title as the Chinese National Martial Arts Champion without ever competing". By Wingchunxt

Another one who doesn't read on his facts. Jet Li probably did spare, and MAY have had a fight possibly somewhere in his lifetime, but he was national WUSHU champion, jesus have you ever seen a WUSHU championship? It's form display.

link

Thanks

Good clear post. I get your points and have to agree to them. You have different Wushu championships. The Taolu (forms) Championships and the Sanda/Sanshou (boxing) Championships. I believe Jet Li has won the form Championships.

You cannot compare movie fights with real fights. But it is fun. In the movies everything is possible as far the fantasy of scriptwriter goes. Look at the Matrix trilogy for example. Or compare it to car accidents in movies. If they do not explode it is not good enough for movies. In real they seldom explode and never so big. It is the same with movie fighting. Al three would be wasted by, for example, Gary Lam or Sem Schildt.

link

Another Thing

It's true you can't judge a martial artist 100% by their movies, but you sure can tell a hell of a lot from them. Sure now days we have girls who are all over martial arts movies, kicking the crap out of everyone. It is only when you get down to the detail can you see what is BS, and what is true skill.

In typical american MArts movies, the action is cut into many pieces. IE. A single kick will be cut into 5/7different shots! It's rediculous, it shows the actor has less skill, and movie tricks have to be made to make the action passable. I'll detail some of the bit and peices I have seen, studying action film as I do.

Matrix: Keanu makes a decent attempt in long and unsped up shots. But you can see that many moves are slow, and lack impact/force. And lots of tricks are created to make the action better (IE Smiths running in front of the camera to merge shots).

DOA/Twins Effects: More girls with action, a billion shots for 1 fight scene. A kick will have 3 different angles to make it look 'cool', as to me it looks crap.

Fearless (Jet li): Many shots of Jet doing high spinning kicks, falling on his back, falling off a plank, jumping across the screen etc will show the back of his head. While many of the shots were you can clearly see his face, are sped up.

Gorgeous (Jackie Chan): Shots where he falls violently onto pavement are doubled with a stunt, you can see the stunt is not as built as jackie and has different hair colour. And of course a speed up, here and there.

Action shortcuts are everywhere. It's been this way since some early cheesy Segal movies. But its the way action has developed to protect actors and keep their health in mind.

You can see real skill when it is a long shot, non sped up, and the action is fierce. 'Wheals on Meals' or 'Goregous' In the first boxing match is a good example. Fist of Legend is decent too, but so many kicks and punches don't follow through and its more like a slap. Check out fearless when Jet Li kicks the Tiger Claw guys off the plank, Jet Li stops his foot when he kicks the guy in the face.

Long shots with good action with no speed ups will show you how fit a fighter really is, and possibly their true speed. But hits can always be easily faked in cinema.

link

It's possible

It would be possible to know who was better out of jackie and jet they could spar, but they won't because if one of them did lose it would hurt his carrer badly and the loser would probably lose popularity. In my own oppinion, ehhhh i'm not really sure but i know jacky is much more physically fit and has more trainning with traditional shaolin five animal, jet maybe slightly faster and have training in wushu forms but if you have channel 34 comcast sports net they show wushu alot and it is mostly for show but to say any martial art isn't dangerous is ludicrous, back to topic, i think jackies punches are much more powerful. A little off topic but what if Segal was to be put in competition with these two what are yours guys thoughts on him?

link

heres the facts

Ok, first off Wushu, is not even really a martial art. Seriously. All it is, is dramatized kung fu forms with gymnastics. It looks amazing and I admire wushu martial artist for the way they can move, but they are not fighters. Now because of this, Jet Li is not a trained fighter, like say Bruce Lee was. So to say that Jet Li could fight and beat Bruce is ludicrus. However you gotta admit that Jet Li's movies are amazing, and the movement in them is superior to Bruce's. Not to say that Bruce was less important or anything. He did revolutionize martial arts, with out a doubt. But to say that he was the greatest ever?!?! thats just insane! What did he do that was so great as far as the ability to use his skills go? Not really much. I mean the greatest martial artists ever are the stuff of stories and myths. Theres no way to know whose the best ever so its not even worth bringing it up. So you say Bruce is the best ever? Why because he combined martial arts? Friggin Wong Fei Hung beat 30 armed assailants with a long staff. Miuomoto Musashi killed more men with a stick then probaly anyone ever did with a sword. And Im sure theres hundreads of other storys of people who's skill and legacy has long outlived thier lives and become so distorted that its impossible to discern the truth.

jet li two years of shoalin

wushu is a communist sport that has useless forms but he has two years of real shaolin training and can kill you misinformed idiots

Martial Arts
i have been doing tai kwon do for about a year now and i also practice wing chun kung fu. in terms of what you might want, wing chun gets the job done...well and fast. you don't need to be strong, the style is strong by itself. tai kwon do is flashy and requires you to use brute strength. i enjoy both styles. Capoeira was also another style i tried it was great and very flashy, if your choosing just for...

there is no best martial art, now days, unless you want to be a professional fighter, or you need to know fighting for your job, there is no reason why you should need to know more than self defence, incase you fall intoa situation where you need to defend yourself, or someone else. but the answer lies within what can martial arts do for you, and what do you want to gain out of martial arts; whether it be fitness, self...

Bruce wasn't the first to bring Eastern MA over to the West. Edward William Barton-Wright, for example, brought Judo and Jiu-Jitsu from Japan to Europe well over half of a century before Lee's time. He even combined the styles with Western martial arts such as stickfighting, savate, boxing, and wrestling. Eastern martial arts, as well as Lee's ideas, received much attention due to his movies. They were both popularized even though they were not necessarily new.
