alright
i'd say go to the gyms around your area and either partcipate in a class, or watch a class and see what you like the best.
there isn't a "best" art for a beginner, they all have novice ranked students. also, why are you interested in martial arts? for what purpose do you seek training? do you want to be a better fighter, or get some exercise... etc Reaction by:

hm...
Hands_down is right...
it all depends on what you want out of martial arts. If your looking for a fighting style, then you should try MMA, Boxing, Mauy Thai (boxing and muay thai will really improve stamina) Kickboxing, Wing Chun, Hung gar... For health, learn most techniques out there, get fit, and learn great self defence then try a kung fu (you will learn how to fight if you really apply yourself, but its not the focus in most kung fu's) For something that looks great try Wushu or capoera If you like the ground fighting and throwing arts, then have a look at Judo and jujitsu For something that is relitivly easy, and will get you relitivly fit and learn how to fight then i'd say try out karate, tea kwon do, hapkido... If you wanna learn how to assassinate people and fight sneekly, then try Ninjitsu... It all depends on what sort of style you want, what i have said is a very basic view of the arts. Reaction by:

Hands Down and Five Animals u guys r0x
thx for the tip, well some people believe that
martial arts was the best thing they ever done in their entire life..thats pleasent to hear.. anyway what i expect from martial arts (its a long list sry) Like.. Physical Fitness, Mental Strength, Philsophy, Nutrition, Good Health, Great Attitude, And Things For Life and to succeed and to 'express myself' and it could be a Key Factor For Life..cuz i heard once a girl took karate and she end up getting STRAIGHT A's in her school..So i guess i expect from martial arts what bruce lee expected.. hm...
You don't really get nutrition from martial arts, tey can advice you on what to ewat and what not, but you will need to learnt hat sorta stuff in school.
Joining a martial art doesn't increase your intelligence level, it increases your knowledge, but no intelligence. What could have been a factor is that she becaome more confident in life. and therefor was able to handle the stress of exams and tests etc etc Reaction by:

lol
lol, i should really let hands_down respond to this, but he didn't, so here we go (correct me if i am wrong hands_down) MMA is a dominant mix of Muay Thai, Boxing and Jujitsu.

pretty close
basically, MMA is broken down into 3 parts.
1. Stand Up fighting - combination of boxing and muay thai. 2. Clinch (In fighting) - greco-roman wrestling 3. Ground - Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/Judo. It's probably the most complete system you can get, teaches all the aspects from solid stand up to submission fighting. if you've ever watched the UFC? thats mixed martial arts... Reaction by:

depends
taking MMA as your first martial art is a good choice because it teaches you how to fight properly. when i was in kung fu, i learnt a lot of inpractical crap, and i wasted lots of time fighting the "wrong" way. so when i switched to mma, i had to change everything. but it was the best decision i've ever made. now, i really know how to fight. i wish i went into MMA as my first choice.
no offense five_animals, your training in kung fu is probably better than mine was. its rare to find origianl practical kung fu instruction. Reaction by:
five_animals, 2006.03.03, 05:16
lol
lol, the onyl reason my training is mroe practical than other kung fu styles liek it is because my master was trained in full contat fighting, jhe is a brawler, he was drilled to win at all costs, he doesn't like in-practical crap, so if it is impractical he iwll modify it, or add something eelse to make it practical.
