fighting

I know that when you train in martial arts you are tought to defend yourself, but what happens when u r fighting a guy that does martial arts to!

link

lol

good point, its like that story of teh guy selling a spear that could penertrate anything, and across the road a guy was selling a shield that coulnd't be penertrated... so which is superior?

But not all martial arts train for defence, so it depends of the value of that martial art and its master

link

a little help

can someone tell me how to add a video to an article again, SORRY.

link

Boxing

No offence to anyone who does boxing but what if u r fighting someone and they yous there legs to kick you what do you do.

link

It's pretty easy just to punch past their shield of legs, I would say, and then hit them in the chin.

link

boxing

thing is with boxing you train to and aim to move into your opponents close space as fast as pos. also kicks such as round house are easily defended against by a clinch. thrusting kicks are just dodged, or you angle your self so they glance off you.
lotsa people say that the clinch isnt any good for defense, e.g. the opponents hand can slip between your arms and bop yah on the nose, but there are secret techniques not taught very much nowa days which make the defence boxers use superior to most ma's

link

Yeah, the high kicks are easy to slip and avoid, because boxers train to slip fast punches.

If you ever watch the UFC or other MMA, they use a variety of clinching tactics. Takedowns, clinch-and-pound, control, etc.

grading

people love to grad and try to move up to there black belt, but uv hardly ever graded doesnt it get boring...

link

no

for one, it depends on the person, there are people in my club that don't want to grade, for them, achieving a pretty colour belt isn't important.
If your club limits you to your belt colour then yeah it will get boring, but if you're allowed to experiment and are taught more than your level then it won't be.

link

grading!!!

Well now i know what u meen, and its pretty good, but me i like 2 move up in differnt belts...

link

actually..

i think grading is more of a boost, to get you going. but without you knowing it, for example, if your a white belt in wushu, and your really want to go up to a red belt, you will try harder and harder to earn it. maybe that was the original reason ranks and belts were invented.

link

nope

Belts, as a classification (the chinese wore sashs, but for internal organs, not for rank), was created by Judo. I forget his name, but he had too many students, and he couldn't keep up with who knew what. So for everyone who knew a certain number of techniques wore black belt, everyone else wore a white belt; this gave him a general idea. From there it just advanced. THats why White is generally teh first colour, and black at the top

link

grading

At my club you dont choos if you want grad, the master tells u if ur ready to grad or not, and if your ready you can choos from then...

belts

i always hated the ranking system. in my schools we weren't promoted up in rank until we knew a certain amount of forms. i didn't think promotion should be based so much on forms instead of overall knowledge and skill. everyone in my class that was higher ranked than i was couldn't touch me in the tournaments. i was fighting red and black belts when i was just a green and purple belt. the ranking system was a lot better at my kung fu school, which is probably why i excelled in it more and got more recognition.

i was wondering if anybody has ever heard of bob leiker. he's one of the top teachers in the u.s. in jido kwon (sp?),tae kwon do and goju ryu. he was also my teacher for about 9 years.

Hey, I really like this forum.
It's cool to see what other people think and believe about some of the most famous martial artists. I was reading gunz's and lohan?'s comments, and then looked at the long list, and stopped reading right around where lohan said that he respected gunz. idk, if this forum is outdated, and that my comment will mean nothing... but here are my two cents anyway... Bruce Lee is great. Jet Li is great. Jackie Chan... is just crazy. Ha :) I think that...

Why Jackie chan would not last 1 round with bruce lee.
Bruce Lees style that he created himself jeet kwan do. (the art on no style). Ranked supreme during his time it broke down the all of the of the flaws of gung fu, kung fu, shaolin, boxing mu thai, judo etc. Jeet kwan do was all of the style combined into one style. If Jackie chan came at bruce with just his simple shaolin munk fighting style it would only be seconds before Bruce Lee would pick him apart. I...

Bruce lee is the greatest "why?"
Bruce lee is the greatest because he was the best at every popular fighting style at his time. If he lived in our era he would have studied brazilian jui jitzu and all of the other styles that have emerged in the ufc, k-1 etc. The best fighter is the who can adapt to all styles and that was what bruce lee was all about he trained and worked harder than any fighter ever. If there was a modern day...

The Bruce Lee Diet
Obviously people associate Bruce Lee as being a master of martial arts who appeared in many films and had quite an amazing life. But one thing people may not be aware of is that Bruce Lee had a very strict diet which he stuck to, to keep him performing at the peak of his fitness. The Bruce Lee Diet consists of various factors which we will examine below. Obviously before even thinking about copying the Bruce Lee Diet, you should consult...

I was student in this school, www.yantaikungfu.com I left in advance last winter. there are a little students in total during my stay. I just love these guys who write on forums and tell us how Sensie Segal can't fight. During my life I had the pleasure of training with the late Sensie Shigeru Kimura and Sifu Mark Stewart. They had one thing in common and that was the respect of other MA. Age and and obvious wieght problem may not have been kind to Sensie Segal but make no mistake he is one of the toughest MA who ever graced a dojo. I'm new...
