My fighting system Which art is the best for a security guard? I have been designing my own self defence system for 5 years now, i have gone round to many schools of many styles to get input. My system is not desgined for sport or competition, just real life sitituations, in and out and walk away. Its mainly based on Atemi, judo and jujitsu. Has anyone esle thought of doing their own system/style, if so what would be the mix?

bouncer
one of my sifu's is a bouncer. he was head security for the high courts, but got bored etc etc.
what does he know? honestly, kung fu. for 10 years he has 'bounced' people with just his martial arts training. the biggest thing that you need to learn for a security guard or as a bouncer is control. there are a lot of dick head bouncers out there that just throw punches to end a situation. get good at your talking skills, and your covers incase worst comes to worst. for me, grappling is more practical since it won't hurt the guy. but in bars and clubs, a lot of people will have a mate or two to help them out. if this is the case then you have to strike, you cannot grapple 3 people at once. karate would not be good for this, all they do is drill their techniques, drill drill drill, and there is little integration work. i honestly think a striking art like wing chun, or a jiu-jitsu based style. Judo not so much since its throwing. with todays laws, the guy trying to attack you pretty much as more rights than you do Reaction by:

what about boxing? i think judo would be very good for a bar situation since most people are under the influence and they wont be hard to put down, plus in a bar there is lots of stuff around so they wont get up from that fall!

stupid
ok... you've already made the first mistake that most bouncers do... bouncing is not all about throwing people to the ground and slamming them into tables and chairs. its about keeping others safe from them.
the biggest thing you need to do is escort people out of the club/bar, if they fight back you restrain them, but only when it gets serious serious would you aim to do damage to them Comment by: ilandrona,

hey
hey and welcome.
first things first... why do you want to start fighting? A real fight is fast, aggressive, and very scary, i would be perfectly happy if i, as a fully competent martial artist, never got into a real fight again... it would be a good life. but if its what you want to do then its what you want to do. styles like Muay Thai and Boxing are great for fighting. you'll get fitter than you've ever been doing both and learn great fighting skills. i personally would choose muay thai over boxing any day. another good style is Krav Maga. very simple, very effective and very practical self defense. but the problem i have with them is they train you to see everything as a potential threat. i don't think any martial artist should walk down the street and as soon as someone comes within their 'red zone' start seeing how they would attack the person and look for objects on the ground to use in the fight... the physical side of Krav Maga is awesome, but the mental side to things not so much. actually, even though i think its kinda dumb that u wanna start fighting lol. in a real fight, u most likely wont remember any style that u have been learning. instead, ur just gunna fight out of instinct and adrenaline will take over.
so learning a style isnt necissary, just learn basic combat moves, practice them, and workout. Comment by: richardcotet,

security training
Well as a armed securityguard and also a martial artist I think a mixture of kali or wing chung hand traps speed to help to control limbs disarmals as well as limb destructions and a bascic knowledge of take downs and not to mention multipal attacks and a bascic ground fighting you never know it mite come in handy weapon work is so important and most people cary somethen a gun or a knife so I think. A good style if all this is included that's what's up
