Wushu question.
I am planning on learning a martial art, and my primary choice is wushu. I heard from one good source that it is an ancient art both internal and external, that you can easily defend yourself with. I also heard from another source that wushu is very pretty, but it's all choreographed and not practical for a fight at all. Which is true?
Geplaatst door: h2zman, Tuesday, 14. August 2007, 03:14h Heres a good question
what type of martial artist is it better to be 1)someone who knows loads about martial arts and can answer nearly every question on martial arts but has never trained or practised martial arts in his life or 2) someone who has trained in martial arts his whole life but who knows very little about it please comment
Geplaatst door: deano m, Saturday, 28. October 2006, 18:05h what is lau gar kung fu ?
Lau Gar Kuen is derived from a form of boxing practiced at Kuei Ling Temple situated in Kong Sai Province in west China. It was learned from a monk on retreat from that temple by the master "Three Eyed Lau", a tiger hunter, whom we honour as founder of our style. The style subsequently became popular over a large part of South West China.
Towards the end of the 1800's Master Yau's Grandfather (Yau Luk Sau)conceived the desire to learn Kung Fu. At the age of 13 he left Kowloon and travelled to Kong Sai Province where he trained under the MasterTang Hoi Ching. Nine years passed before he was given the right to teach independent of Master Tang. Master Yau's Grandfather subsequently met the Master Wan Goon Wing with whom he continued his studies for a further Six years, and whom he served as son until the latter's death. On his return to Kowloon Master Yau Luk Sau taught only his family and close friends before opening his club to the public. During this time Master Yau commenced his training at the age of Six. His training continued 4 hours a night 360 nights a year for 15 years. Master Yau brought the style to Britian in 1961. thanx 4 reading people :)

I was wondering what you consider as the best and worst Kung Fu movies. Of course you can only judge the movies you have seen.
Best Jackie Chan movie: Who Am I Worst Jackie Chan movie: Thunderbolt Best Bruce Lee movie: Enter the Dragon Worst Bruce Lee movie: Fist of Fear and other fake movies made after his death. Best Jet Li movie: Hero and Fist of Legend Worst Jet Li movie: Kiss ot the Dragon Best Modern Kung Fu movie: Hero Worst Modern Kung Fu movie: Fighting Fish Best Classic Kung Fu movie: Prodigal Son Worst Classic Kung Fu movie: Prodigal Son Who am I is my favorite because it has a good story. But a few weeks ago we did a Rush Hour marathon and that was great too. The best scene is the Mariah Carey imitation of the small girl. I also like the old Hong Kong Jackie Chan movies. I have watched Hero a few times now, and i like the colors very much. I has taken Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon from the first place. Now it is third place because of House of the Flying Daggers. I have seen Here and CTHD together in the movie theater last year, with a presentation of Tan Dun. Tan Dun made the music for both movies. Hero is awesome on the big screen. I took the DVD of Hero with me on a visit to my Sifu (Wang Kiu), he told me that it was one of the best movies he has seen. It was quite fun to watch it with him. He told me about the historical facs and what they said in the movie. I put Prodigal Son as worst and best movie in classics. I like the Wing Chun storie and the training in the small village. But there are some mistakes in historical facts. And i dislike the make up of the actors and the overacted fights in the beginning. But there is some good info when Leung Jan learns Wing Chun. The end fight is bad also. Of course it is not the worst classic movie. There are fake Bruce Lee movies with no stars rating at IMDB. But I refuse to watch them. What are your Best and Worst?
Geplaatst door: Tarzan, Monday, 6. February 2006, 21:39h ambitions
What are your ambitions for martial arts, what do you want out of them and why did you join?
For me i joined because i got bullied a lot and teased because of my looks and weight. So i joined initially to defend myself. My Ambition is to become the best i can, not better than others. I don't enter competitions anymore because i just don't like competing against other people. a while ago i would be in the comp in a second, but now i've realised that its not what its all about. I have my trophies already, i don't need or want more. I often go to other clubs in my area (and some miles away) and train with them, so i can learn and give the different methods of our two clubs. So i am not seeking to become champion, i'm seeking to become a master. Thats why my current training insists of this quote from Sun Tzu's the art of war For to win 100 victories in 100 battles is not the acme of skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill. I believe if i can win a fight without having to hirt the other person, i am a true master of martial arts. That is what i want out of martial arts. Because if i can win a fight without attacking, imagine what i could do when i did attack... it would be devastating So please say, if you want to that is, you ambition and why you joined.
